Eight villages near Peterborough targeted for world-class connectivity, speed and reliability with Gigabit fibre-to-the-premises broadband from Gigaclear

Oxford, 20th June 2014, Gigaclear, the ultrafast fibre optic broadband provider for rural communities, has confirmed that it is investigating the delivery of a new fibre to the premises broadband service for almost 1500 properties across the villages of Ashton, Bainton, Barnack, Helpston, Marholme, Pilsgate, Tallington and Ufford, near Peterborough.

Delivering speeds of up to 1000Mbps for uploads and downloads, Gigaclear is able to bring gigabit connectivity to these villages using a backhaul connection to the Peterborough CORE, a new 90km, city-wide fibre network being built in Peterborough by CityFibre. Once built, Gigaclear’s rural fibre network will transform the work, play, entertainment and communications experience for the residents and businesses in these communities.

Many of the residents of these communities have been campaigning for better broadband for a considerable time. Working with Peterborough City Council, Gigaclear has developed a broadband coverage plan that will deliver the most advanced and future proofed technology in the country, meaning these eight communities will not need a communications infrastructure upgrade again for many decades.

“We had heard about the CityFibre project in Peterborough and were aware of Gigaclear’s rural broadband capabilities and decided that rather than go for a stop-gap solution that extends the life of our existing copper based communications, we wanted something that guarantees speeds to all residents for now and the future.” says Ken Otter, Tallington Broadband champion. “Campaigning through Peterborough City Council we have managed to get these leading communications providers to take our area seriously”

Marco Cereste, leader of Peterborough City Council, said: “People in rural areas have long-complained of slow broadband and so I am delighted Gigaclear is planning to bring incredibly high speeds to villages around Peterborough.

“Having the fastest broadband speeds won’t just make it better for residents, it will also help businesses in rural areas and make it more attractive for some companies to move there.

“This is another step in making Peterborough and the surrounding area amongst the best connected places in the world.”

Greg Mesch, Chief Executive at CityFibre said, “As a company that believes in the transformational effects of Gigabit connectivity, CityFibre is delighted to provide Gigaclear backhaul connectivity via our Peterborough CORE fibre network. This project further demonstrates the value of metro fibre infrastructure, enabling satellite towns and villages to access next generation services from innovative providers like Gigaclear.”

Joe Frost, Sales and Marketing Director at Gigaclear said “We are delighted to take this opportunity, working with Peterborough City Council and CityFibre who can provide us with the network backhaul capacity we need to build this network. We are looking forward to starting to work with these communities to understand the level of demand, and being able to help them thrive.”
