Gigaclear, the ultrafast, pure fibre broadband networks provider, is starting the installation of a new ultrafast, pure fibre broadband network across the villages of Ashton, Bainton, Barnack, Helpston, Pilsgate, Southorpe, and Tallington near Peterborough having exceeded the required sign-up target. Following the eager uptake, Gigaclear has announced that the first phase of the new network, covering the villages of Ufford, Southorpe, and portions of Barnack will commence installation in January 2015. The works will continue until the all villages are connected and live which is expected to be June 2015.
After receiving tremendous support from the local broadband campaign for Peterborough Vale, Gigaclear will be bringing this area of Cambridgeshire into the best-connected 1% in the world. Gigaclear’s fibre to the premises (FTTP) network will put in place a near infinitely-upgradeable broadband infrastructure, as opposed to retrofit, fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) solutions used by other providers. Gigaclear’s FTTP networks today, boast consistent and reliable speeds of up to 1000Mbps (1Gbps) with symmetric upload and download capabilities, so uploads are now as fast as downloads, essential for businesses, anyone who works from home and the creative amongst us. This advanced broadband capability has been seen to fuel more communication, learning, working from home and rural enterprise, helping to improve the rural living and working experience.
Marco Cereste, leader of Peterborough City Council, said:
“This project, supported by Peterborough City Council and local broadband groups, shows what can be achieved when residents and commercial organisations work effectively together. This initiative will transform the connectivity of these villages bringing it truly into the 21st Century without requiring any funding from the council. We are delighted that this project has moved to being able to be installed this quickly.”
Matthew Hare, Chief Executive, Gigaclear commented:
“Peterborough villages, welcome to the future! We’re thrilled by the level of enthusiasm shown by the local community here and look forward to future-proofing more communities in Cambridgeshire. Ultrafast, pure fibre networks are the way forward to safeguard everyone’s ability to communicate, work and play, and for these villages they’ll be taking advantage of this capability in just a few months’ time.”
