Ultrafast pure fibre broadband provider, Gigaclear, has unveiled the full schedule for Fastershire’s phase 2 broadband roll out. The announcement of dates for when each community is expected to go live comes after work began in Badgeworth on 22nd October, starting with a 10km dig to provide the hyperfast fibre connection to the first Gigaclear fibre cabinet.
Communities in Coberley, Upper Coberley, Cockleford, Colesbourne, Cowley, Elkstone, Seven Springs and Stockwell will have access to Gigaclear’s broadband service in the first quarter of 2016, with the first customers in Cockerly going live before Christmas 2015. These communities will be followed by all the remaining areas making up the 6495 total project premises over the following 18 months.
A total of 6,495 premises in the Cotswolds are set to receive ultrafast broadband services over the Gigaclear fibre network by the end of 2017, offering speeds of up to 1Gbps. Details of the entire rollout schedule are now available at www.gigaclear.com/fastershire
Matthew Hare, Chief Executive of Gigaclear, said: “We are off to a great start with this project, with the first ultrafast fibre cabinet due to go live in a few weeks’ time in December. This means the first to receive the service will have ultrafast broadband in their homes and businesses in time for Christmas. Our partnership, and the support received from the Fastershire team is helping us deliver this project on time, bringing speeds up to 40 times faster than the UK average to residents and businesses across the Cotswolds.”
Cllr Mark Hawthorne, Leader of Gloucestershire County Council, said: “Communities are understandably eager to find out when they will have access to ultrafast speeds, and I’m delighted to publish the schedule for the rollout.
“We expect the first residents to be able to benefit from a vastly improved service before Christmas, less than two months after the first digging began at the end of October.”
During the rollout, Gigaclear will hold local events in advance of engineering works to provide relevant information and give residents the opportunity to have their project and broadband questions answered.
