As pioneers of fibre-to-the-home, April 2018 marked the moment in history when we became the first utility provider since 1935 to cross the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge. By laying cables underneath the bridge, we are using the 19th century bridge to deliver a 21st century future-proof broadband solution to the forgotten communities.

We build full fibre networks with two things in mind: reliability and speed. Our network will enable all connected to experience average internet speeds of up to 900Mbps.

This investment will support rural areas in their effort to build smart homes and businesses for the present and the future, putting the world of knowledge and entertainment at each individual’s fingertips.

Process
Careful planning and consideration has taken place between ourselves and the Bridge Master to perform installation works on the bridge, ensuring we preserve this iconic landmark.

The fibre optic cable is laid underneath the bridge in a cable tray that is fixed to the wooden beams that make up the bridge decking, which will protect it from the elements and provide a stable network.

Once we’ve crossed the bridge, we will continue to build our underground network to surrounding communities using our innovative build techniques to increase speed of installation and minimise disruption.

The full initial area of North Somerset is scheduled to be connected by late 2019.
